Greetings to you this fine cold December from *
Untamed-Wolf.
Some of you may remember me, others won't. As it happens, I am the founder of this club you've chosen to watch, and perhaps join.
Originally, this club was set up under the name
Eggman: Imperial Aspirations, but this name was changed to
Dark Vision after discussions with the very few members who actually contributed towards it in 2007.
It's been a running problem that this project has never functioned well as a club. There are far too few people willing to invest their time, energy and creative enthusiasm into it, and unfortunately no club can last long without the support of its members. It began to function more like a secondary art account for myself than as an actual grouping of like minded people working towards a common goal and having fun whilst doing so. As you may know, I chose to stop participating after about a year or so of this situation and I closed the club, so to speak. It was intended to be closed permanently, but then, some months later, one person requested I re-open it, and his enthusiasm convinced me to give him a chance. That person you know as ~
Darkspine-Eggman.
Well, sad to say, it seems that history has repeated itself even with a new leader running things here. Very little input has been made that wasn't his own work. Admittedly, things were run perhaps in a less formal clublike fashion with Darkspine-Eggman in charge, and admittedly, much of what came out of this change seems to have been an attempt to redo what was done in my own time rather than something fresh. Nonetheless, I can't help but take issue with the fact that people wish to watch this club, perhaps even join, but don't actually contribute much towards it at all. Is it perhaps that you'd rather it was going in a different direction? If so, why don't you suggest what the club's aims and purpose should be, where it should go? What do you people want to see? I'd really like to know, for if you want to be part of this club, you've got to start acting like it's your own, and not like it's a five minute fun-piece that can get ignored once you've made it clear to your watchers (who probably don't care) that you've joined a new club. Clubs are run for their members to have fun and take part, not to be consistently ignored by less than half-hearted watchers who join because it seemed like a good idea at the time, then forgot the point of it.
Let's be clear here. I am not taking aim at people who simply watch the club for the art, and wish to stop by from time to time to see what's going on, out of curiosity and interest. Far from it. What I'm taking aim at is that people choose to watch this club but make no attempt to comment on the work displayed, or show any sort of reasonable display of interest in what's done. If you don't like, don't watch. If you do, please comment. Also, and more importantly, if you're a member, start taking part in what's going on, shove your ideas on here, be vocal about them, add your own little piece to the big picture. Take pride in your club, you wanted to join it for a reason, I'm sure. If you want it to be doing something, make it happen by speaking up, suggesting it, and be willing to help make it happen if you want it. Be willing to take part.
I realise this is a long journal, and if you've made it this far without losing interest and going elsewhere, then you obviously care (or just like reading). I hope you read this and respond. I intend to close this club over the winter, and possibly (depending on response), reopen it in 2009. If I do though, I wish for there to be radical overhauls in how things work. We may take on a new role, new aims, a new direction. I want this to be a club that YOU want to be a part of. Make it happen people, this is yours too. Get your thoughts down, think of it as a club AGM. You guys ARE the club.
I'll be voiding all membership for now, and unwatching everyone. All positions are now vacant and for December, this club is closed. If and when we start back, it's a fresh slate. Make sure you're there to write on that slate.
Wishing you a very merry Christmas,
U.W.
